Guelaguetza

The History

The Guelaguetza festival is the most important ethnic-folklore celebration in America. This expression of multiculturism celebrates the brotherhood of a people made up of 8 regions and 16 ethnic groups, united by one purpose, the offering to the Goddess of Corn, Centeotl. The people of Oaxaca celebrate this great event by offering up the best of their traditions and cultural heritage, expressed through dances, which they perform to the sound of their typical music and songs, dressed in the attire of their home towns and villages. The Guelaguetza festival is the highest artistic and traditional expression of Oaxaca, an amazing gathering of people, music, dances and heritage from each corner of the cultural mosaic of our land, a celebration which will leave a deep impression on the heart of anyone who has the chance to experience it.
